Fuerteventura Beaches

There are many criteria you must consider when planning a holiday that you hope will be memorable. Your destination will probably make or break your trip, so you should put ample consideration into what you’re looking for. Do you want a bevy of museums right at your fingertips? Do you want to throw down your money in a lineup of unique shops? Whatever your travel preference may be, you’ll probably find something that suits you in the second largest of the Spanish Canary Islands, Fuerteventura. Culture, history, and scenery all blend together in this island paradise to make an enchanting and flavorful environment for travelers. Fuerteventura beaches, in particular, are world renowned and lure tourists from around the world to come and experience what many experts regard as the best sand around.

Fuerteventura beachFuerteventura is a narrow island, which means that no matter where you are, you’re never far from the beach. You could be visiting a town in the middle of the island, yet the coast will only be a short drive away.

As a result, a large portion of the Fuerteventura landmass is comprised of sand. And many of these beaches are known throughout Europe and the world as pristine tourist hotspots. In fact, a handful of them have been awarded the Blue Flag, an award bestowed on only the best beaches around the world that reach high standards of water quality, sand cleanliness, and public facilities. The beaches at Gran Tarajal, Costa Calma, and Butihondo have all been honored with the Blue Flag.

Meanwhile, some travelers have different expectations of a good beach experience that aren’t included in the Blue Flag criteria. Naturists (or nudists) have a large presence on the Fuerteventura beaches, though they are expected to adhere to certain expectations. While the island makes no official stance on nudity at beaches, it is tolerated in areas outside of resort districts and heavily populated areas and that are relatively isolated. If this is not the sort of scene you wish to encounter, your best bet will be to remain at the more populous beaches on the island. But whether or not you wish to keep your bathing suit on, you’ll find pristine sand at all corners of Fuerteventura.
