If you have done your share of traveling, you have probably discovered that the best holiday destinations are those that offer more than pretty sights and clean sand to lounge on. Most of the memories made on a trip revolve around time you spend exploring attractions and keeping yourself active. Enjoying a beautiful beach is pleasant enough, but if you think about it, you’ll discover that there’s so much more at your fingertips. You might wish to try out a new sport that is unique to your holiday site, or maybe you’d simply like to enrich your intellect with a visit or two to local museums. Whatever your persuasion, you’ll have many options when you’re deciding what to do on your holidays to Fuerteventura.

If you’re looking to get out of the sun for awhile, you might consider making a trip to one of the interesting Fuerteventura museums. In the small village of Salinas del Carmen, there is the Salt Museum. You will visit the island’s famous salt flats and witness museum exhibits that detail how the salt is harvested from the sea and made worthy of consumption. Similarly, in La Oliva you’ll find the La Cilla Museum of Grains, which occupies an old island plantation house (called La Cilla) and educates visitors on the history of agriculture in Fuerteventura.

Lastly, you can explore the history of prehistoric Fuerteventura in the exhibits of the Betancuria Museum. This ancient island estate has been converted into a museum with five exhibition halls that house artifacts from the early years of the island’s history. Just a short drive away is the Molino de Antigua, a restored windmill near the village of Antigua which boats remarkable gardens that you could spend hours traversing. When you’re trying to make up your mind about what to do in Fuerteventura, you’ll find that there are more than enough attractions to keep you busy throughout your Fuerteventura holidays.
